Mission is essential to the life of every follower of Jesus. And it starts in our own backyard, not in some faraway land. That’s why we take seriously our call to serve others in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and families. But sometimes the needs of our neighborhoods are too big for us. That’s when we’re happy to join hands with others, teaming together to make Greater Lafayette a place that better reflects God’s good intentions for our community.  

Lafayette Urban Ministry

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” LUM takes these words seriously. LUM is an organization of more than 40 churches, including Heartland, and serves as a social safety net for Lafayette’s needy children and families. We work to give back the hope, future, and self-respect of low-income people in the greater Lafayette area. We do this by taking an active role in trying to change social injustices and improve the quality of life for the poor of Indiana. Services provided include emergency shelter, financial assistance, food pantry, immigration clinic, after-school program, summer camp, and Jubilee Christmas.

COMMUNITY CANCER NETWORK

CCN’s mission is to support non-medical needs of area cancer patients in collaboration with care providers and other community resources. Heartland is one of the sponsors of their annual Carry-the-Torch march. One of our groups also feels called to make it their mission to support CCN by organizing donations.

Habitat For Humanity

Heartland has been a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette, who “seeks to put God’s love in action by building homes, communities, and hope in Greater Lafayette.” We regularly participate in what’s called “the Apostles’ Build.”

​We also support other ministries through our members and small groups, including the local Salvation Army, Mental Health America, and the local and international ministry of the Gideons.
