“The greatest among you must become like a person of lower status, and the leader like a servant.”
Rev. Brandon Smith
Brandon and his wife Stephanie have been co‐pastors of Heartland since the summer of 2016. They grew up in the same church in Kokomo, serving together as youth leaders. Brandon grew up with a speech impediment, so as a 12-year old he prayed, “God, if you heal me then I’ll become a pastor.” Ten years later…God did. So after studying in Holland, Michigan (Hope College and Western Theological Seminary), Brandon became a pastor. In his free time, Brandon treasures time with his three young kids, enjoys all things nature, and loves the laughter of friends.
Rev. Stephanie Smith
Growing up as the daughter of military parents, Stephanie moved around a bit, but spent most of her childhood in Kokomo. She attended Taylor University (B.A. Christian Ministry) and Western Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). Before moving back to Indiana, Stephanie and Brandon spent the first seven years of their marriage living with students of Hope College, where Stephanie worked as a Resident Director. Now they have their hands full with their own three precious children (all under age 5!). Stephanie enjoys reading, running, nature, and playing with her kids.
Andy grew up in Earl Park, Indiana with his four brothers. He attended Indiana Wesleyan University where he studied Children's Ministry and Intercultural Studies. After graduating in 2017 before coming to Heartland, he spent a year working at White's Residential Family services as a house parent. In his free time, he enjoys horseback riding with his younger brothers, going on random adventures, and spending time with his pet parrots while binge watching Friends and Grey's Anatomy.
Julie grew up in Lake Village, Indiana on a sunflower farm. Her father was a flower grower. In 2011, Julie graduated from Purdue University Calumet with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science specializing in Health Information Analysis. Julie worked at Franciscan Alliance Crown Point for 7 years before moving to Lafayette in 2015. Julie and her husband Matt have been married for 5 years, and they have a 10‐year‐old son Ben, not yet 1‐year old son Nolan, and three spoiled pups. Julie is involved in MOPS, MOMS Club, and BSF International. She also enjoys reading, exploring new places, and spending time with her family.
