“Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.”
Hebrews 10: 24-25
Life is meant to be lived in community. Yet so many of us are isolated, disconnected, and alone. In response, several smaller groups gather for friendship, spiritual growth, and conversation. These groups are not ‘holy huddles’ but ‘missional communities,’ which is why all of them serve our Greater Lafayette community in some way. If you are interested in trying out a group, please contact the group leader. Not sure which one to try? Talk with one of our pastors, and we’ll find a good fit for you.

Sort of. All of the groups are open to all ages, but certain groups tend to attract certain ages. While we strongly encourage intergenerational community and friendship at Heartland, we also recognize the need for people to share life together with those going through similar stages in life.
Of course it depends on the group, but here are some basics. You’ll meet at a group members home or at Heartland. Sometimes groups eat together or they jump right into a study on a topic. Sometimes there are books that help guide the conversation, and sometimes DVDs, and sometimes just the Bible. You’ll have an open, honest conversation. There will be prayer at some point. You might discuss whatever mission the group has chosen to further. Then you’ll head home.
Nope! We like to encourage people to share only as much as they are comfortable, and then one step further. In this way, we try to create environments that work for all people - no matter what your background or where you are at in your spiritual journey. It can feel intimidating if you’ve never been in a group like this before. Our goal is to make it as friendly and welcoming for you as possible.
GroupsBold Bible StudyH20 Bible StudyH2O is a friendly group of people, married and single, retired and not yet retired. They love simply being together, welcoming newcomers, and growing together in their life with God. Currently they are discussing the fruits of the Spirit. They collect donation items for those in our community battling cancer, and every year they organize a group to walk in CCN’s Carry the Torch.
